Quadro Chair
The Quadro was my winning entry to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee architecture program's 2017 Nemschoff Chair Design Competition, competing with students from UW-Milwaukee, UW-Madison, and 45 high schools across the Midwest. The competition gave me the amazing opportunity to work with the research and development team at Nemschoff Chairs to transform my idea into a full-scale prototype.
Chairs are often complicated objects. My goal with Quadro was to show that they don't have to be. I was inspired by the idea of inscribing the profile of a chair within a square. The angles created by subdividing the square and connecting endpoints form its shape. This concept aimed to produce a simple and harmonic design crafted from pure geometries.
The model pictured below was milled from a single piece of wood. Built at 1:4 scale, it is about 9 inches tall, 9 inches deep, and 5 1/2 inches wide.
